Stake.us is leaving Illinois after the Illinois Gaming Board issued cease-and-desist orders to 65+ sweepstakes operators. Illinois accounts are moving to redeem-only mode. Here’s what players need to do now.
If you’re a Stake.us Illinois player, the news isn’t great. The platform is leaving the state and moving local accounts into redeem-only mode after the Illinois Gaming Board sent cease-and-desist letters to 65+ sweepstakes operators in February 2026, ordering platforms to block Illinois residents or face civil and criminal penalties. Stake.us is one of the few platforms to comply, and that means Illinois players need to act now.
What Happened: The IGB Cease-and-Desist Wave
In early February 2026, the Illinois Gaming Board, working alongside the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, sent cease-and-desist letters to more than 65 sweepstakes casino operators. The IGB’s position is clear: platforms offering cash or cryptocurrency prizes to Illinois residents are operating illegally under state law, which limits gambling to licensed riverboats, casinos, racetracks, sportsbooks, and video gaming terminals.
Operators were told to immediately block Illinois players, or face civil and criminal penalties. IGB Administrator Marcus D. Fruchter stated that illegal online gambling threatens consumer protections and undermines responsible gaming safeguards. Stake.us was explicitly named in the enforcement sweep.

What Stake.us Has Confirmed
Stake.us did not leave Illinois players guessing. The platform reached out to its player base directly via email, confirming the exit and explaining what it means in practice. Once the transition takes effect, Illinois accounts move into redeem-only mode. Players can still log in and cash out any remaining Sweeps Coins balance, but game access, purchases, promotions, and new Stake Cash codes are no longer on the table.
Players who believe they received the notice in error can reach out to support@stake.us directly.
What Illinois Players Should Do Now
Log in, check your Sweeps Coins balance, and start a redemption before redeem-only mode locks you out of games. Make sure you have cleared the minimum redemption threshold before initiating a cashout.
If you think your account has been flagged incorrectly, perhaps because you are not actually an Illinois resident, contact Stake.us support as soon as possible.
Alternatives Still Available in Illinois
Illinois players are not out of options. There is no Illinois sweepstakes casino ban in place, and the IGB enforcement targets specific operators, not the sweepstakes casinos as a whole. Most platforms that received cease-and-desist letters continue to operate in Illinois. Crown Coins, McLuck, RealPrize, and Pulsz all remain available and offer comparable game libraries with regular promos. If you need a new platform to call home, any of these is worth a look.
