Lotterywest Selects Brightstar Lottery for WA Systems Rollout

Lotterywest has awarded Brightstar Lottery a long-term contract to supply lottery and digital systems for Western Australia, following a competitive procurement process. The agreement, signed with Brightstar subsidiaries Brightstar Global Solutions Corporation and Brightstar Lottery Australia Corporation acting through its Australia Branch, runs for up to 19 years, comprising a nine-year base term with options for one four-year and two three-year extensions.

Under the contract, Brightstar Lottery will migrate existing technology to its central lottery system to support draw-based and instant ticket games. The scope includes the deployment of 775 new retailer terminals, including the Retailer Pro S2 model, alongside software intended to streamline back-office operations. Brightstar will also deliver website and mobile applications as part of the digital solution, expanding Lotterywest’s online capabilities within a regulated gaming environment that increasingly overlaps with broader igaming infrastructure and technology standards.

As part of Western Australia’s Industry Participation Strategy, the supplier has committed to initiatives aimed at supporting local businesses and communities. These commitments include job creation within the state and the provision of university scholarships, alongside efforts to strengthen local digital capabilities aligned with long-term technology delivery.

Brightstar Lottery serves close to 90 lottery customers globally across six continents and acts as the primary technology provider to a majority of lottery jurisdictions in the United States, as well as several of the world’s largest lottery operators. The Lotterywest agreement adds to Brightstar’s international portfolio as public-sector lotteries continue to modernise systems and digital channels, drawing on technologies that increasingly intersect with igaming platforms and operational models.

“The replacement of Lotterywest’s gaming system is part of our ongoing commitment to modernising our operations to support players and retailers, ensuring ongoing returns to the Western Australia community,” said Colin Smith, Lotterywest CEO. “The new gaming system was critical to protecting and sustaining Lotterywest’s rich history and the community impact it has delivered for the past 92 years. This investment will provide us with a fit-for-purpose lottery gaming system, allowing us to continue to evolve and innovate.”

“Throughout its 90-plus years, Lotterywest has established itself as a forward-thinking lottery, committed to responsibly growing sales and making a positive impact on its communities,” said Marco Tasso, Brightstar Chief Operating Officer International and Italy Operations. “Brightstar is excited to support Lotterywest in its next chapter by introducing our premier technology and comprehensive product solutions, to help shape the future of lottery in Western Australia and support responsible growth.”
