The New York State Gaming Commission has granted a Gaming Facility License to the entity developing Bally’s Bronx, authorising Bally’s Corporation to proceed with the development and future operation of the casino project in the borough. The decision marks a regulatory milestone for Bally’s as it expands its land-based footprint alongside its broader igaming and gaming operations.
The licence approval enables Bally’s to advance plans for an integrated gaming and entertainment venue in the Bronx, subject to ongoing regulatory oversight. While the project is primarily focused on land-based gaming, it forms part of Bally’s wider strategy across regulated gambling and igaming markets in the United States.
According to project details released alongside the announcement, Bally’s Bronx is expected to generate economic activity during both the construction and operational phases. Development plans include the creation of a large number of union construction roles, followed by permanent positions once the facility becomes operational. The project is also expected to contribute tax revenue and support longer-term investment in local infrastructure, workforce development initiatives and community programmes.
The licence award reflects the New York State Gaming Commission’s role in overseeing gaming expansion in the state, as regulators balance economic development objectives with compliance requirements across casino and igaming-related activities. Bally’s Bronx now moves into the next phase of development as one of several major gaming projects progressing under New York’s regulatory framework.
“Bally’s is betting on the Bronx. Having grown up in the city, it’s an honor and privilege to be selected by the Gaming Commission to receive a license,” said Soo Kim, Chairman of Bally’s Corporation. “Our team has worked closely with community leaders, union partners, and local stakeholders to build a project that delivers real jobs, lasting economic benefits, and a world-class entertainment destination for the Bronx. We are grateful for the Board’s confidence and look forward to delivering our project to the community.”
Chris Jewett, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development for Bally’s, said the license approval represents a key milestone for the project and outlined the next steps for development.
“Today is the culmination of many years of hard work, and we are thankful to all of our stakeholders for their continued support,” Jewett said. “This project is a tremendous opportunity for the Bronx community, with more than $765 million in community benefits, thousands of jobs, and other economic development initiatives we will deliver. Our top priority now is to complete our pre-construction work as quickly as possible and get shovels in the ground. We can’t wait to bring this exceptional destination to the Bronx.”
