PandaScore has introduced a new machine learning-based skill rating system, PandaSkill, designed specifically for League of Legends. The tool is aimed at improving the accuracy and depth of player performance analysis within the igaming and esports betting ecosystem.
Developed in-house by PandaScore’s data science team, PandaSkill calculates individual skill ratings using a model that evaluates in-game performance by role and compares players across a global dataset. It uses the OpenSkill Bayesian framework to update skill ratings based on performance metrics rather than match outcomes, offering a more nuanced view of individual contributions.
Each role within League of Legends is modelled independently to ensure fair comparisons, with ratings updated in a free-for-all format to reflect relative global skill levels. PandaScore has released PandaSkill as an open-source resource, encouraging use across esports-focused websites, applications, and publications. The tool provides fans, bettors, and analysts with a new way to evaluate players, teams, and performances over time.
In addition to public use, PandaSkill is enhancing PandaScore’s internal operations. It supports the provider’s igaming betting services, particularly Player Props and BetBuilder, by refining odds accuracy and increasing transparency in how betting probabilities are generated. The tool is part of PandaScore’s broader strategy to offer data-driven innovation across its esports and igaming products.
