Petfre (Gibraltar) Limited Fined £240,000 for Slot Breaches

Petfre (Gibraltar) Limited, operator of betfred.com and oddsking.com, has been fined £240,000 after a regulatory review found certain online slot games failed to meet Remote Technical Standards (RTS).

The failings included offering games that did not display customers’ net positions and titles that celebrated losses as wins. According to the Commission’s RTS, all gaming sessions must make a customer’s net position clear and gambling systems must not mark a return equal to or below the total stake as a win.

The regulator noted concerns that such celebratory features could affect a player’s ability to accurately interpret outcomes and make informed decisions. Petfre removed the affected games following the findings.

This marks the second regulatory action against the business in recent years. In 2022, Petfre (Gibraltar) Limited was fined £2.87 million for social responsibility and anti-money laundering shortcomings.

John Pierce, Commission Director of Enforcement, said: “Features that impair a consumer’s ability to make informed decisions are not appropriate and pose a clear risk.

“While we acknowledge the operator acted swiftly to remove the affected games, this enforcement action should serve as a clear signal to the wider industry to review and strengthen their compliance practices — and to ensure that gameplay is fair and consumers are not exposed to unnecessary risk.”
