International Betting Interest Surges for Saudi Cup Day

The Saudi Cup, since its debut in 2020, has rapidly become a focal point for international betting operators, thanks to the distribution efforts of Sports Information Services (SIS). The upcoming event on February 24th is anticipated to be the most competitive yet, drawing elite racehorses from 12 countries.

The US$20 million Saudi Cup will feature prominent participants, including five American horses led by the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Classic champion White Abarrio, and a strong contingent from Japan, headlined by Breeders’ Cup runner-up, Derma Sotogata. Additionally, three entrants will represent the Middle East, adding to the event’s global appeal.

On the pari-mutuel betting front, the Hong Kong Jockey Club is set to host World Pools for races 3-9 at King Abdulaziz Racecourse, with pool contributions from a wide array of international operators including those from the United States, Canada, Australia, Uruguay, the United Kingdom, Panama, Ireland, France, Brazil, South Africa, Germany, the Netherlands, and Panama. SIS, through its partner PGI, will facilitate international common pools for wager types not covered by HKJC.

This year marks the introduction of dedicated wagering pools for the Saudi Cup in Japan, managed by the Japan Racing Association. Furthermore, Turkey Jockey Club and Hipódromo Chile will operate distinct pools for their domestic markets.

The Saudi Cup day will also see an expansion in fixed-odds betting offerings, available in over 60 countries, including the International Jockey’s Challenge on February 23rd. Notably, Colorado will feature fixed odds betting for the first time, including early prices and derivatives, facilitated by bet365.

SIS continues to play a pivotal role in presenting content from over 150 racetracks worldwide to global wagering operators, enhancing the Saudi Cup’s stature as a premier international betting event.

Michele Fischer, Vice President, SIS Content Services, said: “Through our five-year relationship with the Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia, we have seen tremendous growth on Saudi Cup day as well as interest in their domestic racing.

“As the richest horse race in the world, the Saudi Cup attracts the top horses from all over the globe. We expect this year to surpass all others.”
