MERKUR Casino Donates £2,000 to Glasgow Environmental Charity

MERKUR Casino UK has donated £2,000 to Glasgow-based charity Urban Roots as part of its ongoing MERKUR Community programme, which supports local non-profit organisations across the UK.

Urban Roots focuses on improving environmental health and social inclusion by empowering communities through activities such as community gardening, biodiversity projects, and sustainability initiatives. Founded in 2004, the charity manages 10 community gardens and a 14-hectare urban woodland and wetland area.

The donation will fund the expansion and redevelopment of the Polmadie Pots garden, a key community site developed in collaboration with volunteers. The project aims to provide a shared green space that promotes wellbeing and environmental awareness among local residents.

Since launching in January 2024, the MERKUR Community programme has distributed more than £291,000 to over 130 charities and community groups, combining company funding with voluntary customer donations from its venues nationwide.

Selina Boyack from Urban Roots said: “This funding from MERKUR means we can repair and rebuild our community growing garden, Polmadie Plots. Our volunteers will build this garden in our regular weekly gardening sessions. These sessions are an essential part of the local community, offering a place for environmental protection, education, community cohesion, recovery and wellbeing for a diverse group of people.”
