FanDuel has introduced a new sportsbook feature offering full-game injury protection on player prop bets, as part of ongoing product development within the igaming and sports betting sector.
The feature, named Bet Protect+, allows users to opt in when placing eligible bets by paying a 3 percent premium, which is displayed before confirmation. If a player leaves a game due to injury at any point, single bets are refunded in cash, while affected selections within parlays are removed and recalculated. The protection applies across the full duration of the event, addressing a gap identified in existing igaming-style promotional safeguards, which typically cover only early stages of a game.
According to data referenced by the operator, a significant proportion of injuries in professional basketball occur in the second half, with the third quarter identified as the highest-risk period. The design of Bet Protect+ reflects this distribution, extending coverage beyond the timeframe typically included in standard igaming promotions.
The feature launched in April ahead of the NBA playoffs and is currently available on NBA pre-match and in-play player prop bets, with plans for expansion to additional sports. It is accessible across most US jurisdictions where FanDuel operates, with some states retaining existing promotional models alongside the new offering.
FanDuel stated that the premium attached to Bet Protect+ is intended to cover the cost of providing the protection rather than generate additional margin. The development reflects a broader trend in the igaming sector, where operators are introducing optional, paid features designed to give users greater control over betting outcomes while maintaining transparency around pricing and functionality.
“Even with the most well-planned bet, the most comprehensive research, the best hunch, it can all get squashed by an unexpected injury,” said Jon Sadow, Sportsbook Product Vice President at FanDuel. “We want to allow our customers to regain that loss of control.”
