Safer Gambling Week Reports Record Engagement in 2025

Safer Gambling Week 2025 recorded its highest level of engagement since the initiative began, with organisers reporting more than 80 million impressions across major social platforms including X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. According to newly published figures, activity during the 17–23 November campaign period represented a 40 per cent increase on the previous year.

The campaign received support from a broad group of parliamentarians, including Gambling Minister Baroness Twycross, Shadow DCMS Secretary Nigel Huddleston MP and Shadow Gambling Minister Louie French MP. The Gambling Commission and its Chief Executive, Andrew Rhodes, again endorsed the initiative.

Support also came from football clubs, with Chelsea FC sharing Safer Gambling Week content to its 25 million followers on X. Now in its ninth year, the campaign aims to promote public awareness of safer gambling, encourage conversations between customers, staff and families, and highlight tools designed to help individuals manage their betting activity within the regulated igaming and gambling market.

Organisers reiterated that such tools are available only through licensed operators, contrasting this with unregulated markets where formal safeguards, monitoring and support structures are not in place. The campaign is run jointly by the Betting and Gaming Council, BACTA and the Bingo Association, and includes coordinated messaging across online channels and land-based venues.

Safer Gambling Week also continued its collaboration with EGR, whose Safer Gambling Forum offered an industry platform for discussion of current initiatives, best practice and updates from charities active in the sector. Industry estimates note that around 22.5 million people in Britain participate in gambling each month across lottery products, retail bookmakers, casinos, bingo and online channels, with the majority doing so within established safety frameworks.

BGC Chief Executive Grainne Hurst said: “Safer Gambling Week 2025 has delivered record engagement, underlining our industry’s commitment to raising awareness of the safer gambling tools available to customers.

“The growth in engagement shows our message is reaching more people than ever. In previous years, increases in online activity have translated into greater uptake of tools such as time-outs and deposit limits, and we expect to see the same trend again.

“Thanks to the efforts of operators, organisations and supporters across the country, millions more people are now better informed about how to stay in control and enjoy betting safely. That is something our entire industry can take real pride in.

“As always, our commitment to safer gambling does not begin and end with this campaign. Safer Gambling Week shines a spotlight on the work we carry out year-round, ensuring that the regulated industry continues to prioritise customer protection every single week of the year.”
