PA iGaming Revenues Continue to Surge

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Casino players in Pennsylvania are beginning 2025 with 17 online platforms to choose from. Over the course of 2024, the Keystone State’s iGaming market expanded significantly, with four new operators joining the roster and revenues shattering the records.

Throughout 2024, each season introduced a new online casino. The year began with Fanatics Casino launching in January, followed by Mohegan Sun Casino debuting in April to welcome the spring season. Bet365 Casino made a splash during the summer heat in July, while Horseshoe Casino rounded out the year with its October launch.

Pennsylvania was one of the first US states to legalize online gambling when it passed the Pennsylvania Gaming Expansion Bill in 2017. Signed into law by Governor Tom Wolf on October 30 of that year, the legislation paved the way for the legalization of online poker, online casinos, and sports betting. The state’s iGaming market took its first step forward in 2019 when PlaySugarHouse Casino became the first online platform to launch, going live on July 15.

Ever since, the state’s market has been one of the fastest growing in the US. The latest report from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, released in November, revealed that Pennsylvania online casinos have now exceeded the $2 billion milestone. October’s revenue of $245.2 million not only surpassed the previous month’s performance but also set a new record, breaking the previous high of $233.1 million set in March of the same year.

By the end of October, cumulative online casino revenue for 2024 had already reached approximately $2.17 billion, surpassing the total revenue of $2.1 billion achieved in 2023, with the figures for November and December yet to be included in the final yearly total.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course continues to lead Pennsylvania’s online gaming market, bringing in around $70 million in October, a 12% increase from the previous year. Valley Forge Casino ranks second in total earnings but takes the lead in relative growth, with online gaming revenue reaching approximately $52 million, or an impressive 47% year-over-year rise. Rivers Casino Philadelphia follows in third place, generating roughly $33 million, reflecting a 14% growth compared to last year.

Breaking it down by game, online slots generated approximately $141 million in gross revenue, reflecting a 28% increase from the previous year. Revenue from internet table games also saw a rise, though a more modest one at 8%, totaling around $46 million. On the other hand, online poker revenue dropped by 6%, earning about $2 million. This shows a gradual but certain shift from traditional gambling options to more modern, technologically advanced games among Pennsylvania players, a trend that could be a key factor behind the state’s strong growth in online gambling.
