Online sports betting licences have been awarded to Betsson’s Betsafe, under the trading name Wegame, and Betway.
Wegame’s licence applies to both the Betsafe and Betsson brands, as well as Casinowinner, Guts, Rizk Sport, Nordicbet and Schnellwetten.
At the same time three new divisions of Tipico were licensed, which means that Germany now has a total of 27 licensees under its new regime.
Commenting on the licence, Betway group chief executive Anthony Werkman said: “As a leading regulated online betting and gaming company this gives us the transparency and security to cement our position as a responsible gaming provider in the German market.
“We look forward to delivering on our commitment to our German customers, offering them an unrivalled online sports betting experience in a safe, fair and responsible environment.”
Betsson CEO Pontus Lindwall said: “We are pleased to finally receive this license and we are preparing to re-launch our German sportsbook shortly under the German regulation. Operating sports betting in Germany is part of our strategy of strengthening our position in existing markets by prioritising segments where Betsson has the best conditions to offer leading products. We look forward to offer German customers great entertainment.”
German licenses are granted by the Regional Council in Darmstadt, which started the process in October. Entain (then GVC) was among the first to be licensed, gaining four licenses for its bwin, SportingBet, Ladbrokes and Gamebookers brands.
