5 Lottery Licenses issued by NLA

The National Lottery Authority for Ghana has granted 5 licenses to private sector lottery operators.

Issued in partnership with Veterans Administration Ghana, the five lotteries include Lotto and Lotteries Company Limited, Alpha Lotto Limited, From Home Company Limited, Vision 2000 Company Limited, and Rand Lotto.

This new partnership brings some very positive implications for the future of the African lottery market and general economy; VAG lotto claimed they would create an additional 20,000 jobs directly and indirectly, creating even more tax revenue for the region.

VAG has, however, previously come under criticism, as it allegedly lacked the technology, infrastructure, machinery, and resources to operate, manage and regulate lotteries. With this new agreement, the NLA will be the one and only business to regulate, and generally manage the operations of the VAG lottery. This has the potential to ease the pressure on the Administration and prevent them using unlicensed third parties to keep the operation running smoothly.

This new streamlined management structure also has the potential to support the increase in well-being for veterans from the country, given the VAG’s core focus.

NLA recently issued a statement, saying that: “All licensed private sector lotto operators together with their agents, sub-agents and ‘writers'(retailers) shall use Point of Sale Terminals to sell all lottery products as part of the terms and conditions of their respective contracts. Each licensed private sector lotto operator shall obtain a Security Identification Embossment to affix on the respective lotto kiosks of their agents, sub-agents and ‘writers'(retailers).”

The NLA also stated that any businesses who engage in illegal operations will be summoned before one of the courts located across the country.

They went to add some conditions for the Operators:

“All Licensed Private Sector Lotto Operators together with their Agents, Sub-agents and ‘Writers'(Retailers) shall use Point of Sale Terminals to sell all lottery products as part of the Terms and conditions of their respective Contracts.

Each Licensed Private Sector Lotto Operator shall obtain a Security Identification Embossment to affix on the respective Lotto Kiosks of their Agents, Sub-agents and ‘Writers'(Retailers).”
