Stake Colombia Offsets Deposit Tax with Cashback IVA Promotion

Stake Colombia has introduced a new promotion designed to mitigate the impact of the recently implemented tax on cash deposits. Under the “Cashback IVA” initiative, the online betting operator will reimburse players for the 19% value-added tax (VAT) levied on their deposits. The amount deducted for VAT will be credited back to users in the form of a cash bonus, ensuring that customers can continue engaging with the platform without incurring additional costs.

The Colombian government enacted Decree 0175 on February 14, 2025, which came into effect on February 22 and will remain in place until December 2025. The temporary measure aims to generate $3 billion in revenue to support humanitarian efforts in the Catatumbo region.

By covering the VAT charge for its customers, Stake Colombia seeks to maintain a seamless user experience despite regulatory changes. The operator has confirmed that the new tax will not impact bets placed or winnings generated on the platform.

This move highlights the ongoing adaptation of igaming operators to evolving tax frameworks while ensuring continued engagement from their player base. “For instance,” she continues, “if a user deposits 100,000 Colombian pesos, the 15,999 Colombian pesos of VAT will be deducted as established by the government, but Stake will grant a bonus for those same 15,999 Colombian pesos so that they can play with the total amount of their deposit.”
