Calling all MGA Licensees: A Terrific Opportunity to Boost Your CPD Points Now!

Listen up Guys. Here’s some important news about Anti-money Laundering, Compliance and Player Protection coming your way.

As you may be aware, on October 20 last year, the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) published a series of amendments to its Gaming Authorisations and Compliance Directive (Directive 3 of 2018), in parallel with a new Policy on the Eligibility and Ongoing Competency Criteria for Key Persons.

Following last year’s Amended Directive (and the requirements established under the newly-issued Eligibility Policy), it may interest you to know that the bar has now also been raised on the expertise, ongoing training and professional education for Key Function Holders (KFHs) in departments such as Anti-Money Laundering, Compliance and Player Protection – making this fundamental for the proper fulfilment of the regulated role of a KFH under the Maltese Gaming Act.

The new regulation comes into effect on December 1 this year.

So here’s the rub:

To fulfil the necessary quota of 10 CPD points, KFH’s MUST be seen to be applying ongoing efforts to obtain knowledge and keep abreast of relevant developments in their field.

One CPD hour is earned for each hour of active participation in Professional Educational Activities, such as courses, in-house training, conferences, seminars and workshops relevant to a given Key Function.

Failure to adhere to CPD requirements will, unfortunately, result in applications for renewal of the relevant authorisation being refused by the Malta Gaming Authority.
