MGM Resorts and BetMGM Expand Efforts to Address Problem Gambling

MGM Resorts International and BetMGM have expanded their commitment to addressing problem gambling through a series of new and extended partnerships. These initiatives aim to enhance research, improve treatment resources, and support public awareness efforts around gambling-related challenges. The announcement coincides with the recognition of March as Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) by MGM Resorts, BetMGM, and the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG).

As part of the expanded efforts, MGM Resorts will contribute $180,000 to the Kindbridge Research Institute to fund studies focused on the impact of sports betting and the development of responsible gaming strategies. This donation underscores MGM Resorts’ dedication to supporting research that enhances the industry’s sustainability and provides valuable insights to improve responsible gaming practices.

BetMGM is also increasing its efforts by expanding its nationwide Kindbridge Behavioral Health referral program. This initiative ensures that players across all jurisdictions where BetMGM operates can access specialized mental health services, helping individuals dealing with gambling-related issues.

In addition, MGM Resorts and BetMGM are partnering with the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) to enhance responsible gaming messaging during March. The companies will promote GameSense, a responsible gaming program, through digital platforms and retail sportsbooks, providing sports bettors with reminders to take breaks and access resources via QR codes. GameSense Advisors will be available at BetMGM Sportsbooks and MGM Rewards desks across the U.S.

MGM Resorts and BetMGM are also collaborating with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) to educate gaming law students on the importance of responsible gaming. These outreach sessions aim to raise awareness about the critical role responsible gaming plays in both customer experience and the long-term viability of the industry.

Further commitments include MGM Resorts’ $60,000 contribution to state councils on problem gambling to support advocacy and prevention initiatives. BetMGM has also renewed its partnership with EPIC Global Solutions to provide problem gambling education for its employees. Both companies continue to support the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) Have A Game Plan.® Bet Responsibly.™ campaign, ensuring that employees are well-trained in responsible gaming practices.

These initiatives reflect the continued efforts by MGM Resorts and BetMGM to promote responsible gaming and enhance support for those affected by problem gambling.

Rhea Loney, Chief Compliance Officer, BetMGM, said, “Responsible gaming is a focal point of our operations, and we will continue to invest in programs that promote player protection and well-being. Expanding our partnership with Kindbridge ensures that essential support services are always within reach for those who need it.”

Sarah Gonzales, Director of Graduate Programs, William S. Boyd School of Law, UNLV, said, “Our collaboration with MGM Resorts has been a valuable learning experience for Boyd law students, enhancing their understanding of gaming regulations through real-world exposure. Exploring the GameSense program firsthand helps them grasp the importance of responsible gaming, especially as more jurisdictions require such important initiatives.”
