North Star Network Acquires Soccernet.ng to Expand Nigerian Presence

North Star Network (NSN) has announced the acquisition of Soccernet.ng, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion within the Nigerian sports media landscape and its broader ambitions to strengthen its presence across Africa.

Founded in 2014, Soccernet.ng has become a leading platform for football coverage in Nigeria, providing daily updates and in-depth analysis on local and global football stories. Known for its high-quality journalism, the platform has built a strong reputation and was awarded the Sport Blog of the Year at the Nigerian Blog Awards. The site has gained a substantial following in Nigeria and internationally, with readers from over 150 countries, including the UK, USA, Canada, and Spain.

The acquisition is a strategic move for North Star Network as it enhances its portfolio, which already includes over 30 sports media brands such as Afrik-Foot, Top Mercato, Football Whispers, Sportsmole, and Vringe. By adding Soccernet.ng to its network, NSN further strengthens its position in the African market.

Despite the acquisition, the Soccernet.ng team will remain actively involved in the platform, preserving its authenticity and voice. Lolade Adewuyi, co-founder of Soccernet, will continue contributing as a columnist, maintaining continuity in the site’s editorial direction.

This acquisition highlights North Star Network’s commitment to amplifying local sports voices in key global markets, enhancing its media offerings, and driving sustainable growth across its network of sports platforms. North Star Network is a prominent sports media group with operations in over 30 countries.

Julien Josset, Co-founder of North Star Network, commented: “We’re excited to welcome Soccernet.ng into the North Star Network family. Their passion for Nigerian football and commitment to quality journalism align perfectly with our global vision of bringing fans closer to the game they love.”

“We started out as a small website 10 years ago with a passion to deliver news about Nigerian footballers to readers,” said Soccernet.ng founder Biyi Akangbe. “We have since become globally renowned as a trusted source for Nigerian football news, leading to this acquisition by North Star.”

“We are happy that our hardworking journalists will continue working on the brand as it becomes part of an international group.”
