Star Pelaw in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, is set to increase prize money by approximately 20% across all existing Graded races following its full acquisition by Star Sports. Additionally, an extra race meeting will be added to the SIS schedule, offering greyhound racing fans full weekend action.
The prize fund for Grade A1 and A2 races will rise to £450 and £440 respectively, with winners receiving £150 and £140. Even at the lower end, A8 races will see winners take home £105 from a total race pot of £305.
SIS, which has taken over broadcasting duties from ARC, will showcase races from Star Pelaw every Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening, offering more opportunities for greyhound enthusiasts both locally and beyond. In addition to the regular weekend races, Star Pelaw will also host special fixtures on Boxing Day and a potential event on New Year’s Day.
Kim Sanzone, Head of Greyhound Racing Operations at Star Sports, said: “Star Pelaw are delighted to be able to offer an increase in prize money to further demonstrate our commitment to the track and to all the trainers and owners who have supported us.
“We hope to be able to offer even more commitment with other initiatives and incentives as we progress our track ownership.”
