William Hill has been announced as the sponsor of one of National Hunt racing’s key events, Super Saturday at Newbury, set for February 8th. The sponsorship includes naming rights for some of the major races of the day, including the William Hill Hurdle, the UK’s most valuable handicap hurdle with a prize pool of £155,000, as well as the William Hill Denman Chase and the William Hill Game Spirit Chase.
Earlier in the season, William Hill also confirmed its sponsorship of the William Hill County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March. This race often features competitors from the William Hill Hurdle at Newbury, with recent examples including L’Eau du Sud, which finished second in both events, as well as Filey Bay (2023) and First Street (2022), which also placed in both races.
The Super Saturday sponsorship marks the beginning of a series of high-profile racing sponsorships for William Hill, including the William Hill County Hurdle at Cheltenham, an official betting partnership with the Randox Grand National Festival at Aintree, and the Punchestown Champion Chase.
In addition, William Hill made headlines on New Year’s Day as the first bookmaker to offer ‘Non Runner Money Back’ for this year’s Cheltenham Festival. The company has also reintroduced its Best Odds Guaranteed on all UK and Irish racing from 8am daily, further enhancing its offerings for customers.
Sandro Di Michele, Director of Horse Racing at William Hill, said: “We’re delighted to further our involvement in some of the biggest days in National Hunt racing and the roll of honour on this day at Newbury is right up there with the very best. It fits perfectly into an exciting time of year for us as we build up to our return to Cheltenham Festival sponsorship, as well as our third season as the Official Betting Partner of Aintree’s Randox Grand National Festival.
“Racing is in our DNA and our new sponsorship with Newbury demonstrates our further commitment to British racing. We believe it’s important to be involved as sponsors of some of racing’s biggest events, coupled with our commitment to giving our customers proper value. We offered more top prices on horse racing in 2024 than other major bookmakers and we continue that into 2025 along with Best Odds Guaranteed daily from 8am on every UK and Irish race.
“We also know the importance of Super Saturday for Cheltenham Festival hopefuls and with our Cheltenham Festival Non Runner Money Back offer you can back Festival fancies with William Hill safe in the knowledge that you’ll get your money back if they don’t make it to their target in March.”
Jordan Coates, Head of Sales at Newbury Racecourse, commented: “This new sponsorship marks an inaugural title raceday sponsorship for William Hill here at Newbury. Having worked with William Hill over the past ten years, we are delighted to be expanding our existing relationship with the well-known brand who also occupy two betting shops on course. We extend our thanks to William Hill for their support of one of our flagship National Hunt meetings which is guaranteed to have top quality racing action. We look forward to promoting the raceday with William Hill in the coming weeks.”
