World Sports Betting Uses OpenBet for Cape Town Met Peak

World Sports Betting has reported record trading volumes during the 2026 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met after successfully processing more than three times its average daily activity using technology supplied by OpenBet, with no platform downtime recorded.

The performance milestone comes less than a year after World Sports Betting completed a phased migration to OpenBet’s technology stack, with the supplier’s Player Account Management platform going live in February 2025 and its sportsbook platform following in October 2025 to create a unified igaming and sports betting infrastructure.

World Sports Betting operates across sports and horseracing in South Africa through both digital and retail channels, and the Cape Town Met is regarded as one of the highest-demand fixtures in its annual racing calendar. The deployment includes locally configured sportsbook functionality such as high-leg accumulators, partially redeemable free bets, Telebet telephone betting and integrated pools betting for sports and racing, alongside compliance, taxation and reporting tools aligned with South African regulatory requirements.

OpenBet’s PAM technology underpins customer activity with unified wallet functionality, KYC workflows and reporting, providing a scalable foundation as World Sports Betting continues to expand its igaming and betting operations in a market where industry forecasts point to continued growth in African sports wagering over the coming years.

Runa Walia Desai, Chief Customer Experience Officer at OpenBet, said: “From the outset of our partnership, our focus with World Sports Betting has been on building a strong, scalable foundation for long-term growth. Following the launch of our PAM platform and sportsbook last year, we have worked closely to ensure the platform was ready to perform under the highest levels of demand.

“The 2026 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met was a defining moment, and processing more than three times average daily volumes with zero downtime highlights both the resilience of our technology and the strength of our collaboration. This milestone also marks our expansion into Africa, extending our global footprint to six continents.”

Warren Tannous, CEO at World Sports Betting, said: “Partnering with OpenBet gives us the confidence to scale at speed, knowing we’re backed by the industry’s most trusted technology. With our ambitious growth strategy, they have been able to give us peace of mind and even exceed our expectations.

“The technology behind OpenBet’s modular solution is exactly what we require as we look to significantly expand our sportsbook offering and handle increased engagement levels. We look forward to working closely with the OpenBet team over the coming years.”
